Brief notes on feeding Phyllium

It is my first experience in breeding Phyllium gantugenese “Rizal”, as recommended I hatch them using a Cup-Incubation method with a high hatchling ratio.

I offered the newly hatched nymphs Guava (Psidium guajava) which is supposed to be one of their natural foods, Eucalyptus sp. and Oaks (Quercus robur); most of the leaf margins were cutted.

70% of the nymphs in L1 started eating Eucalyptus; the other 30 % were eating even Guava or Oaks.

Curiously almost 90% of the total nymphs eat only the uncut leafs.

Now most nymphs are reaching L2 stage, and turn feeding on Oaks (60%), and the rest eat Guava (30%) and only 10% eat Eucalyptus, always only the uncut leaves.

Hope my experience can help others to achieve a success breeding this specie.
