General Informations
- provenience: Farino (New Caledonia)
- ID by Frank Hennemann and Oskar Conle
- F1 CB culture by Bruno Kneubuehler (2014)
- further taxonomical informations ➤ phasmida.speciesfile.org
- this is a pure culture, and serious breeders are asked to not mix it with cultures of a different provenience
Females
- slender species
- 7.5 cm
- some females are reddish-brown
- other females are greenish at first, then turn brown later on
- two white tubercles on the mesothorax, which are not arranged symmetrically
Males
- slender too
- about 5 cm
- brown
- few males are all green
- fully winged
- two white tubercles on the mesothorax, which are not arranged symmetrically
Food Plants
- Hypericum
well accepted by nymphs and adults - Salal (Gaultheria shallon)
well accepted by nymphs (L2 and older) and adults - beech (Fagus sylvatica)
moderatly accepted by nymphs and adults
Breeding, Behaviour
- active mainly during the night
- they usually feign death when touched
- although males are fully winged, they fly seldomly
- eggs are stuck into a substrate, e.g. humid kitchen paper
- a sand-filled (about 3 cm high), shallow box is also well accepted for oviposition. But the box in a corner of the cage. Eggs have to be sieved out of the sand once per week (to prevent that they dry out)
- about 15 eggs per female and week
- incubation (HH-method on slightly damp sand) about 2 - 3 months at 20 - 23°C
- nymphs hatch during the night
- a humidity of about 80+ % seems to be good for this species
- easy to breed in my experience
